FuckMusk's Take
Ian Hislop, editor of Private Eye, offered a scathing critique of Elon Musk this week, calling out the billionaire’s contradictory and often troubling behavior. During an interview on Andrew Marr's LBC show, Hislop lambasted Musk's public image as a "champion of women and young girls," pointing out the stark hypocrisy in Musk's actions, such as his medieval-style misogynistic remarks, including labeling Labour MP Jess Phillips as an "evil witch."
Hislop expressed serious concerns about the influence Musk wields through his immense wealth and reach, arguing that his platform amplifies misinformation on a dangerous scale. According to Hislop, Musk seems to thrive on spreading untruths, operating in a world where, as Hislop put it, "it doesn't have to be true – it's better if it's not true – and no one will stop me."
Musk's infamous 2018 smear of British diver Vernon Unsworth, whom he referred to as a "pedo guy," was highlighted by Hislop as a turning point. That incident, Hislop suggested, emboldened Musk to believe he could say anything without consequence, creating a pattern of reckless behavior.
Hislop also criticized Musk’s role in fueling distrust of the mainstream media, pointing out the growing phenomenon of people rejecting established journalism in favor of dubious online echo chambers. Hislop described this as the belief that "the only people who have noticed anything happening in the world are people sitting in their bedrooms and sending messages to each other."
